NIHR is launching Slogan “A Decade of Commitment to Defending Human Rights” on the Occasion of its Establishment

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) launched the slogan “A Decade of Commitment to Defending Human Rights” to mark the 10th anniversary of its establishment, as the Kingdom of Bahrain, since His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa assumed power, has witnessed important transformations towards further strengthening of democratic frameworks and the establishment of a State of law, an integrated legislative and legal system and effective and practical practices as well as building public institutions and bodies that promote the human rights process, including the NIHR, which are all fundamental transformations aimed to promote the course of human rights and public freedoms and ensure that all individuals enjoy them.

On this occasion, Counsellor-at-Law Mr. Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR’s Secretary-General, stated that His Majesty the King issued his High Order to establish the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) on the 10th of November 2009 and grant it powers and competencies compatible with the Paris Principles on the status of national human rights institutions, in completion of the Reform Project of His Majesty.  He added that, based on the approval of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, His Majesty the King issued the law No. (26) of 2014 on the Establishment of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), which was amended by Decree-Law No. (20) of 2016, in His Majesty’s belief in the importance of strengthening the work of the NIHR and giving it further financial and administrative independence.

The Secretary-General of the NIHR has instructed both Mr. Fahad Abdullah Al-Mualla, Director of Resources and Services, and Mrs. Latifa Rashed Al Jalahma, Director of Legal Affairs & Training to make arrangements to celebrate this occasion, which shall include the holding of a number of events, programs and competitions aimed at defining NIHR’s role and achievements during that period, and highlighting its competencies in the dissemination and promotion of human rights culture, which will be announced successively during the coming period.
